Textiles – past, present, and …

What do we mean by ‘textiles’ anyway? In this context we will be looking at all the fabric, natural, synthetic and blended that makes our world what we know it to be today. Whether the material is woven, braided, knotted, knit, felted, it is a way in which fibres are brought together into a fabric that serves a purpose– practical, aesthetic or both. Although the practicality of our materials are not avoidable, the principle focus of this site is to shed lite on the textiles that are inspirational, and art based.

I have had to re-tool, and replenish my kit, prepare for a year of making by hand. It has been an interesting beginning. A little bit of felting, some indigo dyeing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and macrame … just for a start.

I’ll show my inside tool-kits in the next while. It’s all rather organized (needs to be to keep me in my ‘happy place.’)

Below are some links to other sites about historic and contemporary textile art.
